Genesis 19:1-38

The story of Sodom & Gomorrah is often cited as proof that God is displeased with same-sex relations.  However, this interpretation overlooks the aspect of violent rape and also ignores the actual testimony of the Bible.  Ezekiel 16:49–50 states:

This was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy. They were haughty, and did abominable things before me; therefore I removed them when I saw it. (NRSV)

In Matthew 10:14-15, Jesus is sending the disciples out to preach, and here is what he said about communities that would not receive them:

And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgement, than for that city.
